Portsmouth NVQ group motivated by visit from Linvoy Primus

A group of Solent Youth Action volunteers who meet at Pompey Study Centre every Monday afternoon to complete an NVQ in Activity Leadership amongst other awards had a little surprise visit from Portsmouth Football Club legend Linvoy Primus.

Linvoy spent some time with the lads discussing the benefits of their course and finding out more about them as individuals.

Volunteer profile: Dale Ayres

A Solent Youth Action volunteer from Portsmouth has progressed from NEET to being in training and has a regular volunteer role reading the sports news and reporting for the football show on express fm!

Dale Ayres has come along way over the past few months and looks to continue his great work into the future.

He still has 4 months of training left to complete a NVQ in Activity Leadership, FA Level 1, First Aid, Child Protection, Key skills and a vfifty!

He was also asked to jon the volunteer team on Express FM.

Would you like to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics?

Solent Youth Action volunteers from Portsmouth are being offered the opportunity to take part in an OCN Level 1 Award in Preparation for Event Volunteering.

The Personal Best course, run by Learning Links will be starting at the end of May for 11 weeks over one and a half days per week.

As a learner on the course you will be taught about the Olympics, volunteering, health and safety, team skills, equality and customer relations. You will also undertake a volunteer placement.

To qualify for a place on this fantastic course, endorsed by Lord Seb Coe himself, and to earn yourself the chance to become qualified to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics you must:

  • Be aged 19 - 30years
  • Be NEET – Not in Employment, Education or Training*
  • NOT hold a GCSE in Maths or English above a D grade  

NVQ in Sports Coaching with Portsmouth FC

We are looking for young people from across the Portsmouth area to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Sports Coaching and Leadership with Portsmouth Football Club. To start May 10th.

This course covers sports coaching and leadership. Run by Henry Millington from Portsmouth Football Club the course will compose of 2 hours p/w in the classroom at Pompey Study Centre, approx 2hours per week participating in sports and up to 50 hours in a volunteering roll across the allocated time period. We are looking at the course running for 6 months on a Monday afternoon.

BBC News article about SYA anti-bullying campaign

BBC News Online published an article about the Anti-Bullying Campaign launched by Solent Youth Action volunteers in the Portsmouth Youth Action Team.

This is a campaign that has been set up by young people for young people to let them know that "you are not alone, enough is enough".

The campaign will be going into schools and fronting anti-bullying week in November across the city of Portsmouth.
